Winter/Spring Forums Feb. 5 Prof. Bob Brekken: "Abraham Lincoln: How He Grew Into Greatness" As we look to Abraham Lincoln’s upcoming birthday, Bob Brekken, a long-time history professor at CLC, will offer us a new appraisal of Honest Abe’s maturation and presidency. Feb. 19 Cathy Taylor: “What the heck is a Kyrie?” Why is a traditional Lutheran worship service structured as it is? What are its various parts called, who shaped them, when? Cathy tells all. Feb. 26 Rev. Jerry Raedeke: “Sacred spaces” A forum exploring how the Christian faith is expressed through symbolism in the structure and contents of the church building, answering the question: “Why is what where?” Mar 4 Father Bob Pierson: “For all the saints A faculty member at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Father Pierson will acquaint us with the concept of sainthood in the Catholic tradition. Mar 11 John Holbrook: “Saint Benedict Rules!” At St. John’s University, a Benedictine school, John Holbrook came to appreciate the legacy of St. Benedict and the Benedictine order. Now a recently retired history teacher, he shares his thoughts about the Rule of St. Benedict. Mar 18 Rev. Jerry Raedeke: “Lutheran saints” Really, are there Lutheran saints?? Are they the same as Catholic saints? Jerry has the answers as he concludes our three-part March mini-series on saints. April 15 Bernie Roberts: "Life is taxing" What better day to discuss how our taxes could be used to make our communities better places to live. If the decisions were ours, as church-goers where would we direct our tax dollars to further “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”? Come share an hour with Bernie Roberts--churchman, financial planner and community leader. April 22 Margery Holmstrom: “It’s Earth Day at LCC” Celebrate Earth Day with our LCC Creation Care team. Learn what we’re doing as a congregation to protect God’s great earth; discover things you can do in your home, community and beyond so that our children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy the bounties of our planet. April 29 Marget Schmidtke: “Seniors, do you have a plan?” As we age, we all probably worry that our medical planning isn't thorough enough. Luckily, Emelie and Gerry Augustine's daughter, Marget, is a professional medical counselor in the Cities. She has graciously agreed to share with us her thoughts about advanced care planning (health care directives). Bring lots of questions. May 6 Dr. Rick Roberts: "This ticks me off" Lyme disease continues to “bug” our community. Dr. Roberts has some common-sense and medical advice for protecting yourself and your families as the summer tick season begins.
