Small Groups A special ministry is starting at LCC called "Small Group Ministry." It is designed to bring people from our congregation together to have fun, to enjoy each other's company, and to grow in their faith.
Small Groups are gatherings of 8-12 people who meet in homes monthly or every other month. A group may fellowship around food such as a potluck meal, appetizers, or a dessert. After this time of socializing and eating there is always a discussion of some subject related to faith and a time for prayer. Our goal at LCC is to have 10 to 20 groups formed in 2010. There are two groups presently in existence. One was started for “40 Days of Purpose” and is still going strong. The other was started over twenty years ago and continues to be an ongoing vibrant group. If you are interested in becoming a member of a small group or simply have more questions contact one of the Small Group Task Force members: Colleen Both (963-4903), Erin Karlgaard (218-838-9340), Dick Peterson (963-4859) or Carol Smith (829-8142). At an annual meeting on November 15th, the congregation elected the following people to the 2010 church council: President, Carol Smith; Vice President, Erin Karlgaard; Secretary, Rick Jensen; Treasurer, Colleen Both; Education, Nikki Stark; Outreach, Ron Thorson; Youth, Pam Sandelin; Worship and Music, Donna Peterson. Jean Halland, Dagny Trucano and Dick Peterson were elected delegates to next year's synod assembly. John Erickson was named to the LCC Foundation board, and Brian Stark, Julie Domino and Vicki Sullivan were elected to the 2010 Nominating Committee. If severe storms threaten to cancel church activities, listen to Brainerd radio station WJJY 106.7 (which also goes out on B93 93.3, Cool 103.5, and Power Loon 107.5) and the Pequot radios station KLKS 104.3 and KTIG (102.7). Closings will also be announced via email from LCC. The 2009 ELCA Biennial Assembly met August 17-23 in Minneapolis. Among the many important items it passed is a social statement entitled "Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust." You may click here to read it. Here at LCC, we'll learn about the Assembly's actions at a forum on Sunday morning, September 6th, at 9:30 a.m. We now post every week's worship bulletins on our website. You can click here to see Sunday's and here for Saturday's. Better yet, click here to see the latest monthly newsletter!! You may need the free Adobe Flash Player to read the bulletin and newsletter. Kinship Partners is a program that enables individuals, coouples and even families to mentor a child. Though it has been active in the Brainerd Lakes area since 1986, presently there are about 60 children between ages 5 and 15 who are waiting for an adult mentor. If you can spare a couple hours a week for this rewarding activity, please call 829-4606 iin Brainerd (568-4015 in Pequot Lakes) and join a discussion in Chapel Hall at 9:30 on Sunday morning, February 12th. Likewise, if you would like to provide occasional relief to an over-taxed care giver, call the Lutheran Social Services respite service center in Crosslake at 218/692-1964.
